INTERVIEW WITH DAVE REIMER
Discussion Questions
Dave describes a time when people thought in terms of “God has spoken, the Bible has spoken, the church has spoken, this is the truth, and I fit myself into that reality.” Is your first inclination to think that was a healthier approach than the way we think now or was it too trusting of the church’s authority?
Dave suggests that a move away from congregationalism is because the congregation doesn’t want to deal with details. Do you agree that it’s primarily the congregation that has led the change or do you think leaders have had a greater role in moving us away from congregationalism? If so, what would their reason(s) be?
Dave lays out a pattern for leaders in Anabaptist churches that has them thinking things through and bringing a proposal to the congregation for feedback or approval. Do you find this approach workable and appealing?
