INTERVIEW WITH DR. PATRICK FRANKLIN
Discussion Questions
Are you familiar with some of the debate around trinity? If so, have you noticed the tendency for people to read their own views into the Trinity as Dr. Franklin suggests?
Dr. Franklin spends quite a bit of time on indwelling. See Theological Primer: Perichoresis (thegospelcoalition.org) for an explanation of this particular term. He then describes how we don’t co-inhere to each other as we do to God (and God does within the trinity) but that because we all co-inhere to the same spirit we are a community deeper than anything that we can name on the surface of things. That’s a concept worth pondering. What do you think?
Andrew, our host, pushes back with the suggestion that this romanticizes community and Patrick responds that it does the opposite. In your own words explain why Patrick believes this is the only realistic option for community.
