INTERVIEW WITH DR. KARA MANDRYK
Discussion Questions
Kara’s first “flippant” statement is that end things and community are separate ideas. Is that your first reaction as well?
How does knowing that Christ will conquer darkness at some point change our perspective as individuals? As a community? What would happen to a community that was overwhelmed by darkness? That believes darkness, death and despair are how things end?
Does knowing that Christ will conquer, have the power to change our perspective only if we think it will happen soon? Or do we still gain strength from that assurance when we don’t expect that victory in our lifetime?
Dr. Mandryk makes a strongly worded comment that she would “never, ever use the language of how eschatology helps connect us with community.” But she would “use the language of … who Jesus is and the truth of Christ's conquering of all darkness, all death and all despair” Why do you think she makes this statement? Is she perhaps seeing the same problem Dave Reimer seemed to see?
