INTERVIEW WITH DR. STUART MURRAY
Discussion Questions
Dr. Murray talks about the importance of food in Jesus’ life and among church planters. What is it about eating together that is so important for relationships? We eat with others in homes, church buildings or restaurants. Is the setting important? What might be the unique advantages/disadvantages of each?
Is it easier to eat with “unusual table companions” than it is to spend time with them in other settings? Are there other comparable ways to be at ease with uneasy companions in our culture or is eating together still the best?
Dr. Murray points out how much Jesus asks questions, including in response to people who ask him questions. Have you ever had a teacher or mentor who used this approach? If so, did it push you to greater depth? If you never had a teacher like this, why is it that we don’t use this tactic more?
How do you react to Dr. Murray’s observation that “tax collectors and the prostitutes are getting into the kingdom ahead of the religious people”? Which of these characters would you most identify with? How does that challenge you?
