INTERVIEW WITH DAVE REIMER
Discussion Questions
Travis and Rosey point to some of the problems with excommunication including the potential for abuse, who has the right to make such a call, its’ use to make people fall in line and the difficulty of determining what excommunication even means when there is no membership list. Who do you think is qualified to make such a call?
They talk about a situation where it was used and didn’t go well. They comment that they’re not wise enough to know where people are at. Is this concern at the root of our unwillingness to confront? (I am assuming here that you’re probably unwilling to confront.)
Travis and Rosey say they do sometimes not allow people to take on church responsibilities where there is public sin, but then they seem to doubt if that’s discipline. What do you think? Is that discipline?
