Both Doris and Dave mention the desire on the part of early Anabaptists to keep the church pure and both say their intention was good (as do later guests). Do you agree that keeping the church pure is an honourable goal? In your discussion, consider at least one reason why it might be honourable and another why it might not be.
Dave mentions two areas where this church discipline went wrong: 1) it was easier to remove people than work things through and 2) to create a safety net that Dave says doesn’t work. Have we improved in how we respond to people who think differently?
How much do those two reasons factor into some of the divisions we see in North American society in 2024?
